Collecting Stamps
There are four methods – different shops suit different ones. Here’s a side-by-side look at each, with pros and cons.
QR Scan
Every customer has a QR code on their digital card. At checkout, they show it on their phone. A staff member scans it on the Summa scan page in their browser — the stamp lands on the card instantly. The whole process takes a few seconds.
- Fast — one scan and the stamp is there
- Works with any smartphone
- No accessories needed besides a phone for staff
- Staff must actively scan on each purchase
- Requires a device with a browser behind the counter (tablet, phone, or laptop)
NFC Stamp
You get a small NFC sticker and attach it to a physical stamp or keychain. At checkout, your staff holds the stamp to the customer’s phone — done. The stamp is automatically added to the customer’s card. The customer just has to hold out their phone — they don’t even need to unlock it.
- Extremely fast — under one second
- Only authorized staff can stamp
- The customer doesn’t have to do anything except hold out their phone
- Some older phones may lack NFC support
- The NFC sticker needs to be written once with an app
PIN Entry
Every customer has a four-character code on their card (e.g. "K7PX"). At checkout, the customer reads out the code. Your staff types it into the Summa scan page — the stamp is matched to the right card.
- No device or accessories needed
- Ready instantly — just log in and go
- Works even when NFC or camera aren’t available
- Staff must type the code manually
- Slightly slower than QR scan or NFC
Receipt Stamp
After each sale, your POS system calls the Summa API and gets a one-time URL back. This URL is printed as a QR code on the receipt. The customer scans the QR code at home or on the go — the stamp is automatically added. Each code is single-use and expires after 48 hours.
- No staff effort at point of sale — the POS handles everything
- Customers scan the receipt at their convenience — no pressure at checkout
- Fully automated — runs on its own after one-time setup
- Requires one-time technical setup with your POS system (API integration)
- The customer has to actively scan the receipt — not everyone does
